Malignant pleural effusions are everyday clinical challenges faced by Medical Oncologists and Respiratory physicians. Conventional management options include pleurodesis; newer advances allow malignant effusions to be managed by novel indwelling pleural catheters (IPC) without the need for pleurodesis. This session will present the latest data from recently completed multi-centered randomized clinical trials and cohort studies that address the role of pleurodesis and IPC in the management of malignant effusions. Novel data on the outcomes of a combined approach using IPC and pleurodesis will also be discussed.
