Seong Beom Ahn
Dr Ahn is a Cancer Council NSW Research Fellow commenced from 2019 at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Macquarie University. He obtained his PhD (2009) in biological engineering from the University of QLD investigating proteomic and metabolic characterisation of mammalian cells producing therapeutic recombinant antibodies. After completing his PhD, he was employed at the Australian Proteomics Analysis Facility (APAF) as a senior scientific officer until 2011. From 2012, he joined cancer proteomics research group at the Macquarie University as a Postdoctoral Researcher to begin colorectal cancer (CRC) research. He has awarded Cancer Institute NSW Early Career Research funding commenced from 2016 and ended in 2018. He also collaboratively worked in Concord Repatriation Hospital and Monash University’s Antibody Technologies Facility (MATF). His current research focuses on: (1) discovery of blood (plasma, extracellular vesicles, PBMNCs) and tissue based biomarkers for early CRC detection and prediction of patient survival/recurrence using advanced mass spectrometry and immunohistochemistry technologies, and (2) development of novel cancer therapeutics to postpone and/or halt tumour progression, invasion and metastasis by disrupting protein●protein interactions between cancer-specific cell surface proteins.
